A Valentine from Me

The celebration snuck up on me, again, although the stores began advertising its imminence on December 31.  But, for six weeks, I was unmoved by the displays of cards, the candy and other tacky arrangements.  Then the dwindling shelves, about to turn green with St. Patrick’s glory, caught my attention. I realized with chagrin, I have no valentines, planned no lavish dinner or fancy dessert or sprays of roses – I do have some snapdragons from the garden, and red tulips fro Trader Joe’s.

Had I gotten my act together and made a card, I found a super sentiment I now share:

Anyone can catch your eye, but it takes someone special to catch your heart.  ~Author Unknown

God gave me a special man – and two special children whose families are equally special; they are each unique heart-catchers, and extraordinary in their ability to change my world and me.

He has also given me family and friends whose attention and kindnesses are as vital to me as oxygen.

It’s too late for doilies and glue.

If I could, I’d offer candy. Since that’s not possible on this humble blog, I send you greetings, O gentle reader – and I thank thee for thy time – spent reading my modest valentine.

We’re all a little weird.  And life is a little weird.  And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness – and call it love – true love.  ~Robert Fulghum, True Love
