This Week’s  Wince-worthy Moment or Two

I wince slightly as I write this. Ecclesiastes 10last week’s study —has been an odd comfort for the disquieting time the end of May was.

On May 31, 2024  a jury unanimously found a former President of our country — and presumptive contender in the 2024 election —  guilty on all 34 felony counts of paying hush money to a porn star.

Solomon’s observation is right on!

Dead flies make a perfumer’s oil stink, so a little foolishness is weightier than wisdom and honor. . .(10:1 NASB)

Because of 24/7 reporting I know way more about “stuff” — none of which I can do a thing.

Yet the fool multiplies words. No man knows what will happen, and who can tell him what will come after him? (10:14)

Americans are in unchartered territory —well, I sure  am!

We —I —  just don’t know what it means to see the judicial branch of our government  wobble under the weight of politics and endless speculations and accusations.

The Preacher’s words were oddly comforting

Here’s a piece of bad business I’ve seen on this earth,
An error that can be blamed on whoever is in charge:
Immaturity is given a place of prominence,
While maturity is made to take a backseat.
I’ve seen unproven upstarts riding in style,
While experienced veterans are put out to pasture.

Caution: The trap you set might catch you.
Warning: Your accomplice in crime might double-cross you. (
Ecclesiastes 10:5-7, The MESSAGE)

One More Wince Worthy Moment

Writing this, almost  as if perfectly programed,  I remembered a moment as the last week in May began: another wince worthy moment!

A friend showed Doug and me  how [their] artificial intelligence — CHATGPT  — can   hear one’s questions and answer those questions.

We asked and listened as a female voice fielded question about the Trinity and later came up with old puns for Doug.

New to me — but unsurprising to Solomon:

Don’t bad-mouth your leaders, not even under your breath,
And don’t abuse your betters, even in the privacy of your home.
Loose talk has a way of getting picked up and spread around.
Little birds drop the crumbs of your gossip far and wide. (Ecclesiastes 10:20)

Pogo is still right! Why Are You So Horrified?
