I Heard

“And this room is where the late term abortions were performed,” the guide said.

I recently toured a former abortion facility. Now it is a pregnancy recourses center. I stared into a large room, stunned that anything like this could have happened a few blocks from our home.

God, I had no idea.

Oh, I knew something happened there; but not that – not late-term abortions.

Seriously? Come on, my inner me chided. You knew they performed abortions there!

I Saw

Every time, I stopped at the traffic light at the corner on which that building sat, I winced inwardly – often I prayed; mostly I mourned.

Some of folks moved beyond sorrow and worry. They equipped pregnancy resource centers and now offer life choices on the premises of what formerly was an abortion services center.

How do we build on their successes, and offer better choices to women who have a right to make informed decisions?

We are each fearfully and wonderfully made– whether our parents planned to have us, or were shocked to hear the news we were coming.

Nothing we have done – or plan on doing – puts us beyond God’s good grace and tender mercy, including the choice of abortion.

But knowing that some today feel they have no choice but to end their pregnancy  tells me I should become involved: Praying, and giving.

So I Choose

Prayer works best – but getting informed and showing up to serve is as essential. Compassion is the cornerstone – The Lord’s for us, and ours for women and men who have created a child.

The folks who serve women facing unplanned pregnancies have had success. It’s good news that the rate of abortions is down . . . but the numbers of babies who die are still staggering. In fact, abortion is the leading cause of death, if we believe fetuses are human. (snopes)

So, work remains.

Maybe a visit to hallowed ground, a space reclaimed from death and reserved for life and prayer, could be a start?

Maybe a goad from Scripture will energize?

11 Deliver those who are being taken away to death,
And those who are staggering to slaughter, Oh hold them back.
12 If you say, “See, we did not know this,”
Does He not consider it who weighs the hearts?
And does He not know it who keeps your soul?
And will He not [a]render to man according to his work? Proverbs 24:11-12
