St. Distaff’s Day
Thank you Peg Bracken for reminding me of a chore I will never have to do – nor have I ever attempted it, old and cute as I am.
“. . . the Christmas holidays having ended, good housewives resume the distaff and other industrious employments.” –The Book of Days (from January 7, I Hate to Cook Almanack)
Maybe Tudor scholars know the celebration; I did not. (Another reason I love almanacs!)
Here’s a link to more info than you thought to take the time to read – but, after all it is January. See St. Distaff’s Day and a warning you won’t hear much today:
So, all you women out there need to get back to your spinning today and do make sure you throw water over any young men who try to distract you!

January Greetings
Welcome, winter. Your late dawns and chilled breath make me lazy, but I love you nonetheless. ~Terri Guillemets
