Here we go again: Daylight Savings Time 2023
I was ready for it! I set all our clocks ahead, and even got myself settled in bed at a reasonable hour.
But, even then, I managed to head to church sans cellphone and Fitbit.
Twenty years ago — would that have mattered?
Probably not.
But, in 2023?
I need all the help I need to make sure I can keep up with myself, even at my pace.
Check the time, I must, and the date and my pulse rate . . . before I am good to go. If I remember where it is I am going!
LOL.
Just kidding — We’ve got a GPS.
Seriously.
Do you ever wonder how dependent we now are on devices which depend on satellites?
Or, do ever think how you would be able to explain to your grandchild how all those things work— like a cell phone, or GPS?
I do.
The I older I am, the less I understand of what makes my world go around.
But then I grew up in the age of electricity and automobiles. And I don’t remember my grandmother explaining how they worked. (She was just getting used to the phone and electric stove!)
I take so much for granted, as if I really could produce my daily bread.
You say grace before meals.
All right.
But I say grace before the play and the opera,
And grace before the concert and pantomime,
And grace before I open a book,
And grace before sketching, painting,
Swimming, fencing, boxing, walking, playing, dancing;
And grace before I dip the pen in the ink.
~G.K. Chesterton
Would that I did.
Silent gratitude isn’t very much use to anyone who has done a lot for you. ~G. B. Stern, Robert Louis Stevenson: The Man Who Wrote ‘Treasure Island,’ 1954
Thank you, God — for keeping me, especially when I am disconnected from my devices, and especially for being the God of my gray hairs. (Isaiah 46:3-5)
Here we go again . . . heading into longer days, playing hide and seek with an hour we will find November 5, Lord willing.
Praying that as all those satellites stay put, we won’t forget the Lord who keeps the stars in their place.
Lift up your eyes on high And see who has created these stars, The One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them all by name; Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power, Not one of them is missing. (Isaiah 40:26 )

kitty and mousie: Playing hide and seek –like we do with that HOUR
May we all say grace like Mr. Chesterton. Thank you for another gentle and thought provoking writing my friend! I wish I had a mouse catcher as furry and purry as your beautiful painting.
I love quotes — I read them to see as CS Lewis commented on whey we read: to know we aren’t alone. Paining cats makes me happy — especially when I don’t have to pay their vet bills.
I loved this reading! Today I will remember that everything I touch can be a prayer and to be sure to speak kind words of gratitude out loud to those I come across along my day.
ps, I think I like the time beater this way!
*better 🙂
